                                 Nitric Oxide Signaling
  1. Acetylcholine interact with GPCR on the surface of Endothelial cells.
  2. Active GPCR activate PIP2 signaling .
  3. ENOS is activated in the endothelial cells which convert Arginine in to Citruline and Nitric Oxide (NO) .
  4. Nitric oxide being hydrophobic in nature translocate in to neighboring Smooth Muscle Cell by simple diffusion .


In smooth muscles cell Nitric Oxide participate in two important process.

It interact with Heme group Guanyl Cyclase. And active Guanyl Cyclase convert GTP in to cGMP and cGMP activates PK-G.
  1. PK-G is a serine , threonine kinesis which promotes dilation of blood vessels by smooth muscle    relaxation.

  1.  Nitric oxide also nitrosylate of several proteins . which participate in vasodilation of blood vessels.


 A disease known as Angina pectoris have a block coronary Artery. Nitro glycirine injected is used for the treatment of the patient which increase the diameter of blood vessels.


Angina pectoris is the medical term for chest pain or discomfort due to coronary heart disease. It occurs when the heart muscle doesn't get as much blood as it needs. This usually happens because one or more of the heart's arteries is narrowed or blocked, also called ischemia.


A drug Viagra or Sildenafil is a potent inhibitor of cGMP Phosphodiesterase . Intake of this drug promote vasodilation and smooth muscle relaxation.  

Vasodilation is the widening of blood vessels. It results from relaxation of smooth muscle cells within the vessel walls, in particular in the large veins, large arteries, and smaller arterioles. The process is the opposite of vasoconstriction, which is the narrowing of blood vessels.

Types of Vasodilators


There are different types of vasodilators, including:
  • Arterial dilators (mainly affect the arteries)
  • Venous dilators (mainly affect the veins)
  • Mixed dilators (affect veins and arteries)
Arterial dilators are typically prescribed to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, while venous dilators are effective for angina and heart failure.

SYNTHESIS OF STARCH AND SUCROSE In most species, sucrose is the principal form of carbohydrate translocated throughout the plant by the phloem. Starch is an insoluble stable carbohydrate reserve that is present in almost all plants. Both starch and sucrose are synthesized from the triose phosphate that is generated by the Calvin cycle. The pathways for the synthesis of starch and sucrose are shown in below figure. Starch Is Synthesized in the Chloroplast The prominent starch deposits, as well as enzyme localization studies about the chloroplast , leave no doubt that the chloroplast is the site of starch synthesis in leaves. Starch is synthesized from triose phosphate via fructose-1,6-bisphosphate.
